However, after repeatedly storing freshly synthesized particles over a period of 3 days, we found that the particles exhibited a change in chemical composition, as quantified by elemental analysis using energy dispersive analysis by X-rays or EDX (Supra 55VP Leo). The reason for this change may be related to a room temperature decomposition of the particles into iron oxide (although XRD did not reveal a new phase formation), or the leaching of ions from samples stored under wet conditions.
